The Story Behind York Township’s Pink Plow Truck
An innovative idea led Highway Commissioner Dick Schroeder to build one of the first pink plow trucks in Illinois to raise awareness for breast cancer. Even more impressively, he was able to do it at NO additional cost to taxpayers.
He proposed his idea to truck manufacturers, Peterbilt and Monroe, who loved the idea so much that they helped secure discounts on their products. York Township also received special approval from the Susan G. Komen Foundation to paint the plow truck their signature pink.
